Monument to the Discoveries

52 meters high it occupies this monument that commemorates the fifth centenary of the death of Henrique the Navigator, discoverer of Las Azores, Madeira and Cape Verde.

From above you can see the 25 de Abril bridge, the Belém monument, and most importantly, a marble mosaic at the foot of the monument that represents a compass rose in the center of which is a world map.

The Compass Rose is 50 meters in diameter and was designed by Cristino da Silva. It was a gift from the Republic of South Africa.
